What do we know about The Dark Crystal prequel from Netflix?

The Jim Henson Company and Netflix have come together to bring us a prequel series to the 1982 cult classic The Dark Crystal. The series is a Netflix original set to release soon in 2019. It will bring forth the old-style use of puppets over CGI in the current age of animation. The series was teased about 2 years back with a behind the scenes video released by Netflix:

We are now closer than ever to the show being on our screens. The lead writers and creators are Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the duo behind this year’s star-studded romance Life in a Year. While only a few character names can be found online, some of the voice actors have been announced on the project.

Taron Egerton plays Rian, presumably one of the main characters in the series. Game of Thrones alum Nathalie Emmanuel plays Deet, as announced on her Instagram a while back. Other actors on the show include Helena Bonham-Carter, Keegan Michael-Key, Toby Jones, Natalie Dormer, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Eddie Izzard. We will even be getting some action with the voice over extrordinaire Mark Hamill. As of now the show is slated for a single season with ten episodes. According to IMDB:

“[The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance] returns to the world of Thra, where three Gelflings discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, and set out to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”

Everything on the show looks great so far. It is shaping up to be one of the more hopeful prequels and/or rehashes of an old movie property in quite some time.

Were you a big fan of The Dark Crystal? What other retro properties would you like to see Netflix revive?
