An update on Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot

Sony’s latest comic book project involves adapting the Valiant Comics character Bloodshot. An army man who is injected with nanotech and transforms into a super soldier. He gains abilities such as shape shifting, technopathy and a healing factor. Vin Diesel and crew began filming in Cape Town a while back and it seems the film is in its final stages before hitting the cutting room floor.

The film has been described by Sony as a throwback to 80’s sci-fi pieces like Terminator. Other actors on the project include Toby Kebbell (Kong: Skull Island), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) and Lamorne Morris (New Girl). Most notably, the film has been rumored to include in Guy Pearce in a villain role. This will be both Diesel and Pearce’s second comic book role; the two have played Groot and Aldrich Killian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I suppose it is the second for Toby Kebbell as well, but let’s pretend we forgot about Fant4stic.

The lead writer on the film’s screenplay is Eric Heisserer. He is most known for writing for Arrival, Lights Out and the popular Netflix original movie Bird Box. The film will be the directorial debut for video game visual effects supervisor Dave Wilson. Wilson has spearheaded VFX on games like Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic and BioShock: Infinite. He even worked on the MCU movie Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

All things considered, it will be an interesting movie and could very well be a new avenue for Sony if all of these Spidey villain flicks don’t pan out. The film is slated for February 21st, 2020.

Have you heard of Bloodshot? Are you excited for more non-DC or Marvel comic movies?
