Fox Searchlight released a trailer for the next horror movie based on a children’s game. If you enjoyed the films Truth Or Dare and Escape Room, you may be in for a treat with their new Hide And Seek based flick Ready Or Not:
The film follows the high class Le Domas family. They subscribe to a cult-like belief that they must perform a ritualistic sacrifice to survive and stay wealthy. One of the family’s sons is getting married; The family has decided that his new bride is the perfect sacrificial lamb. On the night of their wedding, the mansion is locked down and the family plays hide and seek. Stay hidden and you won’t be murdered.
The movie seems to carry with it a slight comedic undertone somewhat similar to James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment. Samara Weaving plays Grace, the bride. She and her new husband, who kept the ritual a secret as to not raise suspicion with his family, evade the many inhabitants of the Le Domas Mansion. Other cast members include Andie McDowell (Groundhog Day) and Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible and Revenge) as the bride’s new parents-in-law.
The movie does not look bad. It carries an ironic tone and doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously. Of the many horror films being churned out this year, this one looks to be entertaining at the very least. The set design and direction also look quite enjoyable. The film comes from the directing duo of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, two of the many filmmakers behind the 2012 horror film V/H/S.
Ready Or Not hits theaters August 23rd of this year.
