Sony recently announced that they will be rebooting The Boondocks with its original creator Aaron McGruder. Shortly thereafter the designs for Grandad and Huey were released to the public via Instagram:
The news first began as rumors until Grandad himself, John Witherspoon, said the show would be returning during an interview with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. After that, the cat was out of the bag. Sony made the announcement official, while the first look at Huey was posted to Instagram. The second photo was released to commemorate Father’s Day and shows a much more bellicose Grandad.
The last season of Boondocks was both produced and released without the assistance or involvement of McGruder. The change was noticeable and fans felt like it took a serious plummet in quality. Sony will be mending this by having McGruder on board to steer the new show in the path of his vision.
The Boondocks reboot will be in production for a while, presumably, and no release date has been announced as of yet.
