The final trailer for season three of Stranger Things is out and we have some answers as to what the gang will be up against next:
After some time has passed, the rising darkness from The Upside Down is creeping its way back into Hawkins. So, how is that even possible if it was locked out when Eleven closed the gate? The trailer’s theory is that they simply locked it in with them. With Will free of the Mind Flayer’s control, a new host is located in the form of season two bully Billy Hargrove, played by Dacre Montgomery.
This season brings back the gang of Eleven, Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin along with season two’s addition Max. With the help of the older group of Steve, Nancy and Jonathan, they seek to finally snuff out the monster for good. We don’t get too great a look at Winona Ryder or a post-Hellboy fit David Harbour, but it can be assumed they will have a strong presence in the season.
As far as how much more story is left to tell in Hawkins, producer Shawn Levy has confirmed that the Duffer Brothers do plan to move forward with season four. Though it has not yet been confirmed by Netflix, it is sure to be a safe bet unless season three is an utter failure. The Duffer Brothers and the cast have all stated on separate occasions that they think less is more with this series and would rather end it around four or five seasons instead of taking to the point of no return.
If you need a refresher on the first two seasons of the show, the cast came together and released a recap on Netflix’s YouTube channel:
Season three of Stranger Things hits Netflix this 4th of July.
