We don’t normally cover comic book news on Binge Sequence, but because so many people thought the announcement would be movie related it seems appropriate. The Spidey countdown began with a webbed number 4 that led hopeful, or delusional, fans to believe that Marvel was somehow going to be releasing the fourth installment of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series just smack-dab in the middle of MCU continuity.
As predicted, the announcement turned out to be a countdown to some Spider-Man comic book related news. The reveal was that legendary filmmaker J.J. Abrams and his son Henry Abrams have written a new Spider-Man comic book series that will be releasing under Marvel Comics this September:
The comic series will feature art from comic book artist Sara Pichelli. Pichelli was part of the art department that worked on the award-winning movie Spider-Man: Into Spider-Verse. The book will also introduce a brand new Marvel villain named Cadaverous.
Many fans have responded negatively to this due to it being unrelated to a Tobey Maguire Spider-Man revival. Despite that, J.J. Abrams is a super talented writer whose pen has helmed Lost, Star Wars and Star Trek. There is no doubt the limited series will be an entertaining one.
