The new film by Roadside Attractions stars Shia LaBeouf and Zachary Gottsagen as two dreamers setting sail to a wrestling school down the river. Check out the trailer below:
The film looks unique and legitimately moving from its coming attractions. Early viewers have referred to it as a modern Mark Twain story. The movie is about a young boy with Down Syndrome (Gottsagen) who runs away from home and meets an unlikely local (LaBeouf) who plans to get him to the wrestling school of his dreams aboard a handcrafted river raft. The boy’s caretaker, played by Dakota Johnson, finds him and attempts to put a stop to this outrageous plan. Little by little, however, she begins to see the magic of their friendship.
The film is written and directed by filmmaking duo Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz. The two have worked together on short films in the past; this will be their feature film debut. Minor cast-mates include John Hawkes, Thomas Haden Church, pro wrestler Jake “The Snake” Roberts, rapper Yelawolf and Jon Bernthal. The film already won the Audience Award for Narrative Spotlight at the SXSW Film Festival this year.
Actor Shia LaBeouf has had quite the journey in Hollywood. From his beginnings as a Disney Channel star to his mental breakdown and strange public exploits, LaBeouf has turned his life in a new direction. Hopefully this movie spawns a new narrative for his career and brings him back into the spotlight that his great talent deserves.
The Peanut Butter Falcon hits theaters this August 9.
