Disney’s Maleficent was a bit of an anomaly when it first came out. It was the first villain-centric Disney film that reworked an older story to create a new one. Disney is now taking it a step further with the Sleeping Beauty and her scary Godmother in Maleficent: Mistress Of Darkness. The new trailer can be seen below:
This time around the young Aurora finally gets her Prince Charming. She is to be married to a Prince and entered into a royal family that disapproves of Maleficent’s ways. Ignoring the pretty solid job she’s done raising Aurora, the Queen (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) wishes to be Aurora’s new mother full-time. The plan seems to be turning Aurora against her. Maleficent, being herself, can’t resist flying off of the handle in response.
The kicker in the trailer is the ending bit involving Chiwetel Ejiofor playing the leader of a large group of winged monsters that are presumably the family and race of Maleficent. We will likely get a bit of backstory to her and how exactly she became the lone Mistress Of Evil that she is.
Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil hits theaters this October 18th.
