Rumors, delays and leaks have been present about a Mortal Kombat reboot film for years now. Nothing was ever confirmed or concrete until just recently. The project is growing more and more likely with the success of the recent Mortal Kombat games from Netherrealm Studios.
The reboot has already claimed its director as Simon McQuoid, a television commercial director who will be making his debut as a filmmaker with this movie. McQuoid is aided by screenplay writer Greg Russo. This will also be Russo’s first movie, although he is said to be writing the Resident Evil reboot script as well.
It was just announced that the person cast to play the Lin Kuei ice ninja Sub-Zero is martial artist and actor Joe Taslim. Taslim is an Indonesian actor who has worked on The Raid: Redemption, Star Trek Beyond and Fast & Furious 6. Taslim also starred in the Bruce Lee inspired television show Warrior.
No official date has been set on the project’s release aside from the year 2021.
